Biographical Note: The UT Minstrel Troupe included performances by faculty, including Professor Charles Ferris of the department of Engineering and Professor R. C. Matthews, considered the first cheerleader of the University of Tennessee.

Scope and Content Note: The Minstrel Troupe broadside advertises a show including song, dance, and stories, meeting at the Science Hall. It cost thirty cents per person, and proclaimed "funny faces by folks in a funny faculty frolic." It makes references to Professor Charles Edward Ferris of the Engineering department, Illinois-native Prof. R. C. "Red" Matthews, "Specialist in Rooting," Botany Prof. Samuel Henry Essary, and UT President Brown Ayers.
