Biographical Note: James D. Hoskins was the Dean of the University from 1911 to 1934, and president of the University of Tennessee from 1934 to 1946. Mr. Luther B. Newman was a University of Tennessee, Memphis, student, who graduated with a medical doctorate in 1923.
Scope and Content Note: This collection consists of a letter dated September 12, 1917, from Dean James D. Hoskins to Mr. Luther B. Newman of Chaska, Tennessee, informing him of his acceptance into the University of Tennessee's premedical course without condition for the fall term.
