Don't miss the last chance to make a difference
September 27, 2004 The official deadline to register to vote in the 2004 election is Saturday, October 2, and the UT Libraries are making it easier by offering three locations for voter registration.
From Monday, September 27 through Friday, October 1 at noon, three voter registration boxes will be located throughout Hodges Library: one in Reference; one at the Circulation Desk near Melrose Avenue; and one in the Media Center.
The Libraries are making voter registration easier by taking the registration forms to the Election Commission, eliminating the extra step to take or mail the forms to have them certified.
"Sometimes when you register to vote, you need to either mail in the registration form or get it to the Election Commission yourself," said Greg Womac, who is helping to organize this event. "It is easy to stick the form in your back pocket and forget to get it in on time." Registration at the Libraries will end at noon on Friday so that forms can be delivered to the Election Commission in plenty of time.
"Libraries and democracy go hand in hand," said Jane Row, Social Sciences Coordinator at the Libraries. "As the election gets nearer, we will be putting up displays and providing information about how to become a more educated voter. Offering voter registration at the Libraries is just another way we can contribute to that effort."
