Service Pledge 
The University of Tennessee Libraries will provide the highest quality service to all patrons, and will offer instruction and equitable access to information in print and electronic resources.
Library users may expect:

  • Courteous and timely service
  • Respect for all questions and the best available answers
  • Knowledgeable, attentive and non-judgmental fulfillment of information requests
  • Confidentiality
  • Proactive approaches and creative solutions to problems and service requests
  • Collaborative responses from trained and skilled staff


Clients of Pendergrass Library are assured confidentiality of all library transactions and records including:

  • Questions asked and information received
  • Materials consulted, borrowed or acquired
  • Circulation, interlibrary loan, and library express records
  • Database searching results
  • Reference interviews
  • The state of Tennessee provides confidentiality laws to protect the privacy of its residents
  • Information contained in personal library records will not be disclosed without consent of the client
  • Exceptions are made only with proper judicial order and with the permission of the Dean of Libraries
