Training: Faculty Exchange

The University of Tennessee Libraries provides training to Makerere University Libraries on library and information technology issues, services, and applications. Furthermore, these exchanges serve to establish connections between library and technical support counterparts to assist Makerere University’s information technology initiatives such as library automation and student information counselling.

There have been five faculty exchanges between The University of Tennessee Libraries and Makerere University Library System faculties:

  • James Mugasha, University Librarian to UT to finalize the memo of cooperation.
  • David Atkins, Head, Access and Delivery Services to Makerere to provide training in access and delivery services and user education. Exchange Report, May, 2002
  • Robert Kakembo, Team Leader, Document Delivery Service, to Knoxville to work on setting up the access and delivery system
  • Miriam Kakai, Digital Initiatives Librarian to Knoxville to receive training on and discuss future digital initiatives, Training Feedback
  • Barbara I. Dewey, Dean of Libraries, to Makerere to provide leadership training and plan for next phase of collaboration. Exchange Report, October 2003
  • Anthony D. Smith, Digital Library Center Coordinator, to Makerere to provide training in digital librarianship and further testing and development of document delivery services. Exchange Report, April 2004.

Digital Library Initiatives

Purpose: to explore cooperative digital library initiatives for the creation, preservation, and publication of information in digital formats.
