The University Libraries is participating in an Elsevier-sponsored study of the return on investment of academic library journal collections in the grant-writing process.
Phase 2 is a replication of the University of Illinois case study methodology to 8 universities world wide. Carol Tenopir has received a $29,673 award to collect and interpret the data for this expanded study of 10-years of data in FY 2008-09. Participating universities include:

UT data will be supplied for library expenditures (Debbie Valine & Pauline Bayne), number of faculty (Institutional Research), and research grants received (Office of Research). A survey of UT faculty, who have received grants, will be conducted in September by Gayle Baker, Ken Wise, and Carol Tenopir, who is the data analyst and consultant on the project.

The University of Tennessee Libraries in partnership with a host of Tennessee's cultural and historical institutions will develop a statewide digital library of primary sources. These will be accessible to the state's residents, K-12 learners, and scholars throughout the world through a free, full-text searchable database of 10,000 unique and significant historical items.

This two-year project will recruit students from underrepresented groups to prepare them for a career in science librarianship. Science Links scholars receive scholarships to the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee. They also gain practical professional experience by working in the Science Links partner institutions: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Office of Scientific and Technical Information at the Department of Energy, and Information International Associates.
From Pi Beta Phi to Arrowmont: Bringing Education and Economic Development to the Great Smoky Mountains, 1910-2004
