General Purpose
To support interdisciplinary instruction, study, and research in Women's
Studies leading to a B.A. or B.S. major or minor concentration under the College
of Liberal Arts.
Subject Description
The program emphasizes the following interdisciplinary subjects: music,
American literature, politics and law, philosophy, health, history, and film
criticism.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Women's Studies overlaps with music, English, political science, law,
philosophy, health, history, cinema studies, education, art, psychology,
religion, and business administration.
Languages Collected and Excluded
All works collected are in the English language.
Geographic Parameters
Publications covering the United States are primarily collected. Materials
covering Canada and Great Britain are added secondarily.
Chronological Scope
Emphasis is on current research.
Dates of Publication
With the exception of some classic texts, mainly current publications are
collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Very little emphasis is placed on retrospective collecting.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
All materials are considered with emphasis on advanced texts, scholarly
monographs, and research publications and journals. Special attention is given
to materials covering education legislation, accrediting agency publications, and
publications of professional associations.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
Loose-leaf services, computer media and microforms, and print materials are
collected. Audio and visual formats are added selectively.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Along with interlibrary loan, women's centers on and off campus, such as
Homes for Battered Women and Rape Crisis Hotline, are sources of materials not
in the UT collection.
