IRIS Bibliographer Meeting - Rugby, TN
October 29, 1999

IRIS bibliographers in education, psychology, and geology met in Rugby, along with collection development officers from all three IRIS institutions. Participants were:

University of Kentucky: Jim Burgett, Head, Collection Development, Mary Vass, Education Librarian, Sarah Vaughn, Psychology Librarian

University of Tennessee: Linda Phillips, Head, Collection Development & Management; Kay Johnson, Geology Librarian; Linda Sammataro, Psychology Librarian; Alan Wallace, Education Librarian

Vanderbilt University: John Haar, Assistant University Librarian for Collection Development; Mary Beth Blalock, Director, Education Library; Jean Reese, Associate Director, Education Library; Rick Stringer-Hye, Geology Bibliographer

Education and psychology bibliographers shared information about their collections. They plan to continue their discussion to see if they can identify areas where they can cooperate in building collections.

Geology bibliographers compared programs at their institutions and shared documentation about their collections. Mary Spenser, the Geology Librarian at Kentucky, was unable to attend, and circumstances surrounding the Geology Library at Kentucky may prevent UK from participating in cooperative ventures at this time. UT and VU bibliographers agreed to stay in touch in the hope of finding areas of cooperation.

The collection development officers discussed their recent efforts to cooperate in storing serial backfiles. UT and VU have swapped backfiles and are serving as libraries of record for the consortium for several serial titles. UK bibliographers have decided not to ship backfiles to the other IRIS institutions for now, but they are willing to have UK serve as the library of record for selected serials. The officers also discussed adding IRIS information to the Information Alliance homepage.
