Electronic Reserve Discussion
The Electronic Reserve discussion included an overview of Electronic
Reserve activities at each institution:
- Vanderbilt has purchased the ERes software
(Docutek Information Systems) and is beginning a test in the Management
Library and the Science Library. They have three staff working on course
pack development, including securing copyright permissions.
- Kentucky is developing a pilot project
for the fall.
The project does not use specialized software and will be delivered via
the Web. The traditional reserves will operate simultaneously for some
period of time. Printing of e-reserves costs the same as photocopying --
10 cents per page.
- Tennessee
currently lists course web pages in the
reserve list. Pilot projects are being planned for the fall. At least
one pilot will include streamed media, probably music in support of the
History of Rock and Roll course.
Some ideas for joint activity:
- Share copyright policies, encourage Counsel to exchange ideas or
perhaps meet
- Share solutions to practical problems like slow downloading, printing
of PDF files, etc.
- Joint or shared scanning
- Request permissions across institutions, share information on
permission procedures
- Hold a one day program on e-reserves lead by someone with experience
in electronic reserves operations.
